Summary
The article examines the intense polarization surrounding Arundhati Roy’s memoir, Mother Mary Comes to Me, noting that criticism has stemmed from both political right-wingers and supposedly "liberal" readers. The author argues that much of this backlash is not a reflection of the book itself, but rather a projection of the critics' own political biases, internalized misogyny, or unresolved personal traumas. Ultimately, the piece defends Roy’s fundamental right to tell her own life story on her own terms without being policed by the public.
